Manchester United Football Club were always going to be linked with a move to sign Lionel Messi following all the talk claiming he wanted to leave yesterday. Well, it didn’t take long…

The story comes from Spanish media outlet Sport. They say that United, along with Paris Saint-Germain, are ‘in position’ to sign the world-class attacker.

As we know, the player himself wants out, while the Reds and Paris would be ‘willing’ to pay a transfer fee, which seems rather odd…

Apparently, Messi has a clause in his contract which means he can get out for free. If that’s the case, why would United voluntarily offer up a fee to FC Barcelona?

The only reason I can think of is that, other clubs wouldn’t want to pay Barca a penny, thus giving United and PSG an edge in negotiations…

With it all going quiet on the Jadon Sancho front over the last couple of weeks, it looks like United are certainly exploring different options. Could Messi realistically be one of them…?

United to sign Messi? I doubt it…

We’re talking about someone who earns around £1million-per-week after tax. There’s not a chance United would be willing to meet those demands and I don’t see the Argentine giving up a single penny when he gets to the negotiating table.

We’ve thought long and hard about it and, I just cannot imagine Messi choosing to move to the Premier League at this stage in his career. In all honesty, we see there being two options…

Either he moves to Italy, where tax laws would definitely give the likes of Inter Milan or Juventus a realistic shot at completing the deal. Or, he stays in Barcelona and this is a play to get Josep Bartomeu out of the Camp Nou.

For now, we’d urge to take these rumours with a pinch of salt, but keep a close eye on developments going forward…
