Manchester United fans were feeling slightly underwhelmed when Odion Ighalo was acquired on a short-term loan deal at the end of January.
Well, it’s fair to say the confidence-levels in the Nigerian have definitely rose. Three starts, four goals and a super-impressive cameo against Manchester City to-boot. Not bad, eh…?
As you’d imagine, interest from United is starting to build in regards to a longer-term deal for the 30-year-old. Now, United have learned how much Ighalo will cost them permanently. According to The Mirror, Shanghai Shenhua are set to almost triple their profit, as they’re demanding £15million.
The Chinese Super League outfit only laid out £5.85m to acquire Ighalo, but his form at United has, understandably, increased his value. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already hinted that bringing him in for good may be an option going into an all-important summer transfer window for the Red Devils.
Simply put, it’d be negligent if United didn’t at least explore the possibility. Yes, Ighalo’s getting up there in age but £15million is a drop in the ocean for United. Even if he’s only used in the cup competitions, or as someone who can offer something different from off the substitutes bench, it’s definitely worth looking at.
For me, Ighalo has been an absolute breath of fresh air to watch. It’s brilliant to see a boyhood United fan living out his dream. What’s not entertaining about that?
Hopefully, the clubs can reach some sort of mutual agreement because right now, everything Ighalo does turns to gold!
