Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side missed out on the chance to return to the Premier League top four.
This saw the Norwegian’s poor form continue, with seven losses in his last 10 games.
The club legend, who scored more than 120 goals in 11 seasons at Old Trafford, enjoyed strong form when he first took over in December.
The Portuguese manager won a League Cup and Europa League in his two-and-a-half seasons at United.
But the 56-year-old was involved in some conflicts with his players, especially Paul Pogba.
One star to play under Mourinho at Old Trafford was Ibrahimovic, who was the club’s top scorer in the 2016/17 season.
Ibrahimovic’s revelation comes as:
And the forward, who now plays for LA Galaxy, revealed he had his own argument with the manager from his time at Inter Milan.
Speaking on YouTube channel Bethard, the 37-year-old said: “I remember one time we were losing a game.
“We came in at half time – I think it was Atalanta away.
“I was getting an award the next day for being the best player in Italy.
“But he said in front of the team ‘when you get that award, you should feel ashamed.
“He said in front of the team ‘when you get that award, you should feel ashamed’”
“‘The way you’re playing, you don’t even deserve half of that award’.”
The United legend went on to reveal how he reacted to Mourinho’s criticism.
“We were there in the locker room and he butchered me,” Ibrahimovic added.
“He hammered me.
“So I said ‘OK, I’m not doing good.
“‘Maybe I should do better’.
“We still lost the game but at least I scored a goal in the second half, softened up the critics.
“I still went to get the award the next day.”
And Ibrahimovic explained what made Mourinho’s criticism unique.
The forward continued: “I’ve had situations before where I’ve been hammered by coaches in a different way.
“The difference with Mourinho is he likes to say it directly.
“He says it in his own way because that’s his personality. That’s who he is.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was another star to face Mourinho’s wrath and revealed his reaction.
