Manchester United Football Club were linked with reported interest in Wissam Ben-Yedder by L’Equipe just last week, we covered that story here.
Over the last 24 hours, Le10Sport have picked up the baton and taken the rumour one step further. Apparently, United have ‘made contact’ with the 29-year-old’s ‘entourage’, gauging the mood to see if he’d be interested in a Reds switch.
What’s interesting is that the article states that United want another striker – even if Odion Ighalo ends up staying at Old Trafford beyond his current loan deal.
Ben-Yedder is an experienced, versatile individual who’d be an asset to any squad in world football. Pretty quick, two-footed, a great footballing brain and deadly in goal-scoring positions.
For me, though, it’d be one or the other between him and Ighalo. Neither are first-choice, long-term solutions, rather they’re off-the-bench, rotational options. There’s only space for one in the squad, in my opinion.
It wasn’t too long ago when Ben-Yedder dumped us out of the Champions League with his Sevilla side when Jose Mourinho was in charge, so he definitely loves a big game, too.
No transfer fee is mentioned, but I would imagine that the Frenchman won’t come cheap. If the money involved becomes too astronomical, then I’d probably stick with what we have in Ighalo.
