Manchester United have been linked with one RB Leipzig centre-back already over the last few weeks in the form of Dayot Upamecano.
Well, back on May 1st, Le10Sport ran a story claiming that it’s another Leipzig centre-back the Reds are looking at; Ibrahima Konate.
Apparently, United have ‘made contact’ with the defender’s representatives, despite Konate only playing eight games across all competitions this season due to injury.
Again, constant links to centre-halves keep appearing in the headlines, which makes me think that it’s still an area Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking at prioritising despite the vast improvement.
Konate, aged just 20, had a stellar 2018/19 term which is likely where United’s interest stems from. However, adding another injury-prone defender to the likes of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly doesn’t really seem like the wisest strategy.
In all honestly, Konate is a player I haven’t really seen an awful lot of. The Frenchman is obviously talented, though will he really be able to break into the team ahead of the likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof?
Factor in Axel Tuanzebe, who’s development may well be slowed if the signing is made, and I’m completely against the idea…
Personally, I still think we should be looking at fixing the right-wing issue first, then moving on from there…
