The Red Devils started well under their new boss when he took over in December.
But recent results have proved that Solskjaer needs to revamp his squad in the summer if they are to compete with the world’s best clubs once again.
A number of high-quality players have been linked with a move to United in recent months.
And according to the Daily Mirror, four young stars are at the top of Solskjaer’s wishlist ahead of a massive £250m Old Trafford overhaul.
Firstly, England starlets Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi are being touted as two new arrivals.
The former has plied his trade at Borussia Dortmund since leaving Manchester City, impressing in the process.
Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi has struggled for first-team minutes under Maurizio Sarri this season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also being eyed as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia, following his solid campaign at Crystal Palace.
Finally, Ajax hotshot Matthijs De Ligt is being targeted.
The defender, 19, is arguably one of the world’s best at the back, despite his age.
United’s back four against Barcelona on Tuesday evening highlighted the need for reinforcements.
Victor Lindelof was forced to start at right-back, while Ashley Young faced up against Lionel Messi down the other flank.
Speaking after he got the job on a permanent basis last month, Solskjaer discussed his transfer blueprint.
“United is a club that has money, and that has to be spent in a reasonable way,” he told Norwegian media.
“People who know me, know that I will use that in a good way.
We have a plan with the club, they have scouted players for longer than I have been here, and we have players that we need to keep.
“We will not spend money just to spend money.”
