Manchester United spent big money on Harry Maguire last summer, as the Red Devils looked to tighten up a defence that has been pretty unpredictable over the last few seasons.
Credit where it’s due, the former Leicester City man has been scintillating since making the move to Manchester – particularly after being handed the armband.
With the emergence of Axel Tuanebe and up-turn in form from both Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, there isn’t enough minutes for everyone; even more so if Chris Smalling comes back over the summer.
It means someone has to leave, and well, there are no surprises for guessing who could well be on their way out… The story comes from The Mirror, who believe that Phil Jones is now surplus to requirements at the Theatre of Dreams.
Apparently, United are ready to listen to the offers for the 28-year-old who was once labelled the ‘next Duncan Edwards’. Now, Jones can leave for £12million this summer, with Newcastle United interested.
Jones has made just eight appearances all season and he’s thought to be open to a move this summer as he looks for regular game-time elsewhere.
Injuries have undoubtedly played their part, but it’s fair to say Jones’ time at United has been pretty disastrous over the last half-decade.
Hopefully, a deal can be done and the Englishman can find minutes elsewhere and start to regain both form and confidence.
