The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants in recent days after talking up manager Zinedine Zidane in public.
“Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Pogba said in France’s pre-Moldova press conference last week.
“There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.
“For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.”
This led to a host of outlets claiming Pogba both wanted to leave and would be sold by United in the summer.
However, sources have told ESPN the exact opposite.
According to the publication, United will not entertain any bids for Pogba and will even offer the midfielder a bumper new deal to keep him at Old Trafford.
The former Juventus star’s current deal doesn’t expire for another two years after he put pen to paper on a five-year deal upon his return to Manchester in 2016.
While Pogba has been making plenty of headlines this week, there’s also been plenty of other transfer news, including:
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival in December, Pogba’s form has picked up significantly.
And pundit Ian McGarry thinks there is a hidden motive behind the player’s Madrid comments.
“One of the more curious things about that quote was five minutes before he gave an interview to English media pledging his allegiance to Manchester United because Solskjaer is definitely the manager who has a great relationship with him and his players, who should be given the chance to take Manchester United on and how happy he was at Old Trafford,” he told The Transfer Window podcast.
“And this is ironic, but we used to call it in tabloids a ’come-and-get-me plea’ to Real Madrid, when he then spoke to the French media some minutes after the first interview he gave.
“With Pogba, I think it’s a pipe-dream because what Madrid are aiming for this season is, as we’ve spoken about on the podcast, Neymar as a top target, Eden Hazard as a secondary one and then we have all sorts of ideas around David de Gea.
“In fact, I did a little bit of research and I managed to find out Real Madrid have been linked with 27 different players in the last three weeks alone, with regards to their summer signing targets.”
