Manchester United have reluctantly agreed to sell Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Cast your mind back to the Louis van Gaal era, when then little-known Timothy Fosu-Mensah would make an incredible start to life at the Theatre of Dreams.

Unfortunately, the Iron Tulip would be sacked, while Jose Mourinho had absolutely no intentions of utilising Fosu-Mensah. Injuries also haven’t helped the versatile Dutchman’s case…

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found a place in his squad for Fosu-Mensah, first-team minutes have been few and far between. The defender has only played in three matches this term – including starting in our Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

Today, stories have emerged claiming that Fosu-Mensah is on his way out. Earlier, we covered a claim from the Manchester Evening News, who stated the defender was set to join Bayer Leverkusen in a £1.5m deal.

Now talkSPORT have had their say and added their thoughts. Apparently, United have ‘reluctantly agreed’ to sell the 23-year-old after Fosu-Mensah rejected a contract offer from the Reds.

You see, this frustrates me. Earlier, I was praising the club for not giving out contracts to players on the fringes, saying that they’re learning as they look to move away from players like Fosu-Mensah. When instead, United have tried to give him a new deal. It’s just daft because yet again, they were fully planning on being stuck with someone who doesn’t feature regularly in order to protect their asset…

Check out talkSPORT’s tweet here:

Fosu-Mensah is a talented player, yes. But he needs this move away. At Bayer Leverkusen, he’ll play regularly. That will be good for his confidence and development.

It’s easy to forget how talented Fosu-Mensah was when he first broke through into that first team. I genuinely hope he can hit those dizzy heights again while playing for the Bundesliga outfit.

I, for one, wish him the best!
