Man Utd serious candidates to sign striker, player's current deal expires in June: report

Manchester United Football Club played an absolute blinder when they signed Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan deal, that much is obvious.

However, whether he remains the long-term solution for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains to be seen. I guess only time will tell.

It’s only right, then, that the Reds are doing their homework behind the scenes in regards to looking at other options; enter Edinson Cavani,

Today’s print edition of L’Equipe, translated via Sport Witness, are running a story on the Uruguayan, and they claim that United are ‘serious candidates’ to acquire Cavani on a free transfer – as his current deal expires in June.

Apparently, United have the ‘significant financial means’ which it’d take to get a deal done for Cavani. Presumably, the 33-year-old is looking for a big wage packet, seeing as there would be no transfer fee involved.

United have been here before, haven’t they? Alexis Sanchez’s move to Old Trafford included no fee and a big salary and look at how that turned out. Honestly, I’d much prefer to see United keep doing what they’re doing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That’s making smart signings, don’t deal for the sake of it and stick with the plan. Deviation from that is what cost Jose Mourinho his job and it’d be a crying shame if the Baby Faced Assassin went that way – particularly with how well United are playing right now.

I don’t doubt Cavani’s talent, although this season has been the least-productive in over a decade. I’m sure he’ll score bucket-loads of goals wherever he plays his football next season. I just hope it’s not at Old Trafford…
