This Manchester United squad is looking more depleted with each passing game. We know about long-term injuries to both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, while Harry Maguire is the latest to pick up a serious problem.
Right now, the only two fit centre-backs within the squad are Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof. Yes, you did read that correctly…
That could well force Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into transfer action, with reports from Spain, namely El Desmarque, throwing a new name into the mix. They’re claiming that FC Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti is now on United’s radar.
Apparently, United are trying to sign the 26-year-old centre-half, though they’ll face stiff competition from Premier League rivals as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also keen.
There is a potential stumbling block, too, as Barca are keen to keep ahold of the talented France international.
I love Umtiti, I think he’d be a quality addition if United could somehow pull it off. However, I do hold concerns about his injury history. At this stage, bringing in yet another injury-prone defender doesn’t seem like the smartest idea, particularly when Chris Smalling, who constantly plays 40+ games-a-season, is still out on loan.
Again, it just epitomises what an absolute shambles this club is right now from top to bottom. Heck, I’d doubt Umtiti would event want to move to United at this stage…
