Man Utd watch 23yo striker over the weekend, preparing initial £42.5m bid: report

Manchester United now add signing a striker to their list of priorities following an injury to Marcus Rashford – or at least they should be doing…

Well, with time running down in the January transfer window, it seems like they’re doing their homework at the very least. According to Italian media outlet FootMercato, United watched 23-year-old striker, Moussa Dembele, in action against Nantes over the weekend.

The Lyon forward has gone from strength-to-strength since his time on British shores with Fulham and Celtic. Now, he’s turning the heads of some European giants – including United.

FootMercato says that they’ve been told by some sources United are preparing an initial £42.5m bid (€50m) plus bonuses, for the mega-talented striker.

Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, has stated that he’d prefer to keep Dembele at the Ligue 1 club during this January transfer window – however, would you expect him to say anything else? At the very least this could increase his value somewhat…

United need bodies. The only fit strikers within the current squad are Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial – and it can be argued that both of those guys are better as right and left-wingers respectively…

Dembele is an out-and-out front-man. He’ll score goals in any system, any league, any time, any place. Getting him signed up in the mid-season window, particularly with time running out, won’t be easy mind…
