Despite the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January, it still feels as if this Manchester United squad is one midfielder light. After all, the Red Devils did let go of both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in the last eighteen months…

As the summer transfer window draws closer, United continue to be linked with different names almost daily. Today, another fresh face has been thrown into the mix; Corentin Tolisso.

The Frenchman currently plies his trade for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and has actually been linked to United in the past. This is the first time we’ve heard that name in a while, though.

Anyway, the story comes from the Express on Sunday, who write that United are ‘working on a deal’ to sign the 25-year-old who wants a ‘crack’ at Premier League football.

Tolisso has grown unsettled in Germany after only making 13 appearances this term, seven of which have come as a substitute. Now, it is reported that Bayern won’t stand in his way and are ready to sell Tolisso to generate funds.

United apparently tried to loan the Frenchman in January but Bayern didn’t entertain that. Now, they’ve had a change in mindset and are ready to sell the former Lyon man.

There is still work to be done, mind, with Tolisso having to prove his fitness to the Red Devils, after he needed an operation to repair ankle ligaments – which isn’t an injury to be messed with…

It doesn’t seem as if United are dead-set on Tolisso and he’s the only option, with the Express stating that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking at ‘several’ midfield options due to Paul Pogba’s ‘less than assured’ future.

Tolisso would be an astute signing if the club could pull it off. Though his fitness is a real worry. If the transfer fee is right, then I’d definitely like to see United explore this one further…
