Man Utd would 'probably' use Jack Grealish in unfamiliar position, says Andy Mitten

Manchester United links to Jack Grealish have been pretty constant over the last few months, although things inevitably slowed down after the Englishman found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Well, Grealish was back being linked to United again recently, on The Athletic’s podcast featuring the excellent Laurie Whitwell and Andy Mitten.

Anyway, Mitten was discussing where Grealish would fit in if the move to Old Trafford materialises, and he claimed that United would use the 24-year-old in an unfamiliar position, over on the right-wing…

More often than not, Grealish plays over on the left or more centrally, where he has been absolutely dynamite for Aston Villa. He’s their captain, their hero, their number one asset. At United, that’d be different.

Bruno Fernandes has made that attacking-midfield role his own, while Marcus Rashford is playing some sublime football over on the left. Beating out competition from those guys isn’t going to be easy, though a void does remain over on the right.

For me, Jadon Sancho would be the absolute dream. If it’s one or the other, I’d opt for the Borussia Dortmund man every single time, although he’d be considerably more expensive.

Grealish is a brilliant player in his own right, though United should only buy him if he fits in with what they’re trying to achieve. Otherwise, it’d be a signing made purely for the sake of it – and look how well that worked out with Alexis Sanchez…
