Man Utd's pursuit of £120m superstar could be scuppered due to public backlash at spending: report

Despite there being no football being played over the last week or so, the footballing world is still pretty jam-packed in terms of transfer news.

I guess Manchester United will always make headlines due to their global fanbase. Well, over the weekend, The Mirror ran a story which is somewhat a cause for concern for the Red Devils – and other Premier League big-boys.

Apparently, United, Liverpool and Chelsea could scale back their big-spending this summer due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Top officials at major clubs believe there could be a public backlash on spending when the transfer window eventually opens…

In turn, that could scupper United’s pursuit of £120million-rated Borussia Dortmund superstar, Jadon Sancho…

Sancho, who turns 20 in a couple of days, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for the best part of a year. We’ve been covering that story non-stop here.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, ‘months ago’, identified Sancho as a player who has the ‘right DNA’ to become a Red Devil – with the club working hard to make the deal happen.

Well, now the COVID-19 outbreak could well play its part and stop a massive summer of spending. Obviously, that would be a major disappointment, but at this point in time, health comes first.

There will always be opportunities to splash the cash in future, while it could be worse as United have some top-quality prospects coming through the academy right now…
