Manchester United’s excellent start to the Premier League season continued at the weekend, with Jose Mourinho’s side beating Swansea City 4-0. The game itself was a fairly one-sided encounter, but it did take a while to break down the barrier of the Welsh side.
When confidence and momentum began to flow, there was one man at the heart of everything good; Paul Pogba. The 24-year-old was absolutely superb throughout, scoring one goal and also picking up an assist.
Now, whilst speaking to United’s official site, his United teammate and fellow countryman, Anthony Martial, has claimed that Pogba is the best midfield player in the world. To be honest, you find it hard to disagree with that statement.
“Paul is very mentally strong and he is very sure of himself.” Martial told Manchester United’s official website.
“He is a big guy, he is very technical on the ball and he has lots of endurance. I would say he is probably the best midfield player in the world. He is still young, too, so he has a lot to work on and he can get even better.”
“As a person you can see he is always the same. He is funny, always smiling, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, I always see him laughing and he is a good friend of mine. He is the same person on and off the pitch, and he’ll continue to be like this.”
There was a reason why he’s the most expensive central midfielder on the planet right now. The only other person I’d put in the same bracket as Pogba is Luka Modric. For me, the pair are head and shoulders above everyone else right now.
Pogba’s first season back ‘home’ was great, but this year, I fully expect him to take it to that next level and prove to the world just how good he can be. He’s made a bright start in our opening pair of Premier League games, now, he has to continue putting in performances of that magnitude.
