Angel Gomes has just over a month left on his current Manchester United contract, meaning his long-term Old Trafford future is hugely in doubt at this point.
Earlier this year, Tahith Chong committed himself to the Red Devils and to be honest, I thought Gomes would follow suit. However, that hasn’t been the case.
It definitely feels as though Gomes isn’t in it for the money, having rejected a £30,000-a-week deal at United despite very little playing time.
The Manchester Evening News now reports that the mega-talented United youngster is ‘refusing’ to sign a new deal due to doubts about a possible pathway into the Red Devils first-team.
Apparently, his reps feel ‘underwhelmed’ by the overall package placed on the table by United, while only having a handful of first-team appearances under his belt this season definitely doesn’t help the Reds’ cause.
It’s a finely balanced situation. Gomes is a gifted young man, though United shouldn’t bow down to anyone. They’ve made their offers, which I believe is a more than fair one given his age. It’s now down to the player to make his choice.
Yes, it’d be sad to see him leave but if he feels his career would benefit by moving elsewhere then let him and I’d wish him all the luck in the world. I’m just not sure Chelsea is the best place for him to earn regular minutes…
