MOTM: Mata shone again, Mourinho makes spot on decisions

Manchester United win 2-0 against Leicester City at Old Trafford winning another three points and are now top of the league with full nine points. It was getting a bit frustrated for the Reds as no one was making the break with Juan Mata having two clear chances yet not scoring. On the other hand, Leicester were sitting deep not letting United get through, however, the Reds kept on trying. Frustration grew more with Paul Pogba having several shots, with only one on target.

Both fullbacks weren’t able to deliver any good crosses. Both Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were moving nicely, while Romelu Lukaku kept shooting but Kasper Schmeichel was in exceptional form, saving a penalty in the second half only to be beaten by Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini. In terms of performance, three players stood out from the rest. Find out who they are:

Phil Jones

Eric Bailly makes the Englishman feel so comfortable and he is not scared of tackling and clearing the ball several times. The player is playing it the easy way and Jones was neutralising Jamie Vardy very well and didn’t have many issues to get through. His partnership with Eric Bailly is working perfectly well and in a tremendous way. On duty, always alerted when Riyad Mahrez and Vardy moved wide and down the middle at times. Helped Daley Blind several times and made United feel more secure. Absolutely outstanding, if we had a choice right now who to keep between Jones and Chris Smalling, Phil Jones with his awesome faces is the clear choice.

Juan Mata

It’s unbelievable how things change so quickly and Mata is making the best out of it. Starting three games in a row, performing well on the right, and his movement down the middle combining with Mkhitaryan and Lukaku. His goal should have stood without a doubt as he was on the line, a bit suspicious, but surely a goal. On the other hand, a beautiful shot from inside the box was ridiculously saved by Schmeichel. Went with the same rhythm in the second half. Stunning!

Paul Pogba

Another game, another great performance from Paul Pogba, at least a perfect second half. He had several shots in the first half, but only one was on target. Despite this, the player sat well deep in midfield and helped Nemanja Matic with defensive work. He should work more on his shooting accuracy and free kicks as well. The Frenchman had a much better second half where he helped Lukaku again. Not the best of all the performances, but he is maturing and this only spells trouble for Manchester United’s opposition.

Manchester United won the three points again with a solid first half and another clinical second half where those spot on substitutions made by Jose Mourinho changed everything. On the other hand, a change of formation; Juan Mata is in a more suitable position and the manager gets the best out of him. Mourinho is getting the best from both Mkhitaryan and Mata and this is producing great games, three times in the row. Coming from the player who was called an outsider by Mourinho, now is one of his first choices. A great performance by United this evening.
