Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops Man Utd team news hint ahead of Man City showdown

The Red Devils welcome title-challenging local rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford tonight on the back of their humiliating 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Everton on Sunday.

Solskjaer was stern with his words after the Goodison Park defeat, admitting some of his first-team stars were not working hard enough for the team.

And speaking earlier this week, the Norwegian hinted he would be making wholesale changes to his side ahead of tonight’s crucial Premier League clash.

“Of course there will be consequences,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“We’re not going to see the same team”

“We’re not going to see the same team.

“We had a plan before the (Everton) game how we’re going to look against City anyway and some decisions would have to wait.

“We had a plan anyway and those two plans (Everton and City) weren’t the same.”

But who could miss out this evening?

Nemanja Matic, Fred and Romelu Lukaku were just a few of the players criticised for their performances against Marco Silva’s side on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard was an unused sub during the loss, while Scott McTominay came on at half-time.

Both could come back into contention this evening, along with captain Ashley Young, who was also dropped at the weekend.

Phil Jones looks set to miss out at Old Trafford this evening through injury.

Solskjaer will certainly want to see his side work harder against City after being outran by Everton on Sunday.

“A game like this changes how you think. It’s about a response, you provoke a reaction, you know management is not that easy,” he said.

“But you’ve got to push the right buttons because we can’t work on the pitch or on fitness. It’s mindset and I know the players, they’re good. Talented players.

“And I know all the talk about that stat ‘we didn’t run enough’ – Everton out-run us, that was the thing; we got out-worked on the pitch.

“But we out-worked and out-sprinted many other teams in the Premier League.

“City, we have to bring something different to that game. We want the fans clapping us off knowing that we’ve given everything.”
