Just over a month ago, Alex Fojtíček was released by Manchester United Football Club. Now, he has sent a message of thanks to his former employers.
Fojtíček has finally said his goodbyes to the Old Trafford outfit. A place in which he called home for the last four years.
The young goalkeeper spent the 2019/20 term on loan at Stalybridge Celtic, where he’d make 40 appearances. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for United to offer the Slovakian another contract here in Manchester.
Anyway last night, the 20-year-old took to social media to send a message of thanks to his former employers, admitting just how proud he was to be a part of this journey.
First and foremost, I’m not sure why it took Fojtíček so long to send a message of thanks, after all, his situation hasn’t changed. At this point, he’s still without a club and looking for his next career-move within football.
Fojtíček always faced an uphill battle
Unfortunately for the Slovak, goalkeeper has always been a position of strength for United. David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira, Lee Grant and obviously Dean Henderson were all ahead of Fojtíček in the pecking order. He was always going to find it tough to break into the team.
What’s interesting is that both Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes were also on the team-photo above. One has committed his future to United, while Gomes has since joined Lille on a permanent deal.
As is always the case, United don’t have enough space in the ranks to keep everyone happy. Fojtíček and Gomes simply had to move on for the good of their careers. Football can be cruel at times, though that’s just the nature of the business.
Hopefully, Fojtíček can go on to find himself a new club in the not too distant future. Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we wish him all the best.
Good luck in your future endeavours, Alex Fojtíček!
