Manchester United Football Club has been lucky enough to give a platform to some of the greatest players to ever lace up a pair of football boots.
Sure, times may have been a little harder recently, but that blueprint will always remain. It’s always nice when your club heroes get the recognition they duly deserve.
Over the weekend, MARCA ran a series of ‘dream XI’s’ in which a player picks their favourite players from years gone by. Well, Iker Casillas has named two United legends in his; Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
To see those names up there with the likes of Ruud Gullit, Lothar Matthaus and Marco Van Basten is just insane. It makes you realise that United have had some world-class individuals over the years, and it’s great to see them develop at Old Trafford.
At the end of the day, Giggs and Scholes won the lot and were both one-club men throughout their careers. For me, they’re one and two in the greatest ever players to pull on that red jersey, narrowly beating out the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best.
I guess what I’m saying is that we shouldn’t be surprised to see such high praise for two of the best to ever do it – though it always means more coming from another legend of the game in the form of Casillas.
