What better way to mark your debut season than a Harry Maguire TOTS appearance? Well played, captain.

After arriving in an £80million deal from Leicester City, it became abundantly clear that our defence became miles better the moment he walked through the door.

Sure, Harry Maguire may not be the quickest defender in the world. However, he’s brilliant in the air (in both penalty boxes), has excellent positional sense and he doesn’t mind barking orders at his teammates.

The one they call ‘Slabhead’ has been part of the third-best defence in the Premier League all season long, which is a stark contrast to the leaky backline we had last season.

When I saw Garth Crooks’ BBC TOTS, it’s nice to see a Red Devil in there mixing it with the big-boys. You can beat Bruno Fernandes would have been included if he’d have been here a full campaign, too. Anyway, check out the team in full:

Congratulations, captain!

We don’t call him Captain Harry for nothing. Now next season, he’ll be going toe-to-toe with Europe’s best.

This is why he made the move. He believed in this team during a summer where not many players did. Sure, Leicester were paid handsomely for his services, but we’re the ones celebrating now.

I know mistakes have been made, however, Maguire has definitely brought more good than bad to the table this term. We’re all quick to beat on him in the bad times. Let’s praise him in equal measure, eh?

Although Victor Lindelof was excellent yesterday, I still think Maguire needs an elite partner. Alongside which, he’d surely only get even better.

For now, it’s about celebrating his inclusion in the team, then gearing up for a Europa League mini-tournament next month. I give us a real shot at lifting that trophy if we play at our best. Hopefully, our stars are resting up as they looked shattered at full-time yesterday.

Well played, Harry!
