Manchester United’s first half of the 2019/20 term was pretty topsy-turvy. It was somewhat to be expected, after all, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was slowly introducing new players and tactics.
However, our form has massively picked up since the turn of the year. United are now playing some great football, credit to the squad and manager for trusting the process and turning things around.
Our up-turn in form also coincided with Solskjaer’s decision to hand Harry Maguire the captain’s armband. The one they call ‘Slabhead’ has really taken on that leadership role brilliantly – embracing the importance of being labelled as Reds captain.
Well, his personal surge in form has led to a spot in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Season so far with a 7.12 rating – and it’s richly deserved, too.
Just a week or so ago, we covered another best XI from WhoScored which also contained Harry Maguire, the top-rated English XI. Again, this shows how consistent the centre-half has been this season and all credit to him for taking to life in Manchester so brilliantly.
Having two great full-backs and a partner in Victor Lindelof who is getting better every week definitely helps, but Maguire is now the vital cog in this United defence and his spot in this XI is richly deserved.
Well played, Harry!
