Manchester United made it four wins from four in pre-season today, with a well-fought 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai.
The game wasn’t without incident, though, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be seriously worried about Eric Bailly, who left the field on a stretcher after an innocuous-looking incident.
After the game, journalist Rob Dawson saw Bailly walking through the mixed zone, with the 25-year-old leaving the stadium on crutches with his left knee in a brace. As he states, this doesn’t look good.
This is a major injury concern for United. I’m sure we’ll learn more about the severity of the issue but at first guess, you’d imagine the centre-half will miss the opening day against Chelsea in just over two weeks time.
Bailly just cannot catch an injury break at the moment. After a stunning debut season in which he set the league alight with some brilliant performances, the Ivorian has spent far too much time on the treatment table.
Even this pre-season has been hampered by picking up little niggling problems. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come and maybe United will already be considering cutting their losses on the ex-Sevilla man.
This just further highlights the need for United to go out and sign a top-quality centre-back like Harry Maguire. Who knows, this may kickstart Edward Woodward into action…
