With football clubs at the highest level in England set to make their returns to training this week, it feels as though we’re moving closer to a potential restart of Premier League action.
Manchester United haven’t played a competitive game in the weirdest two months of my lifetime. But, nothing is more precious than human life itself, hence why the decision to halt play was the correct one.
Last week, there were snaps of Paul Pogba training with Anthony Martial, while Luke Shaw put in work alongside Daniel James. Over the weekend, another player started putting in the graft; Marcus Rashford.
Rashford, who was nursing a back injury when lockdown began, is now seemingly over that issue and is trying to work his way back to match fitness.
Obviously, that’s easier said than done, but it does give him a chance to finish the campaign strongly and aid United in their pursuit of both trophies and a top-four Premier League finish.
It’s also nice to see him putting in the graft with Williams, who was once a hot prospect at the AON Training Complex and is now plying his trade for Shrewsbury Town in League One. Once a Red, always a Red.
Although the games will now take place behind closed doors, it’ll be great to have United on our screens sooner rather than later. Bring it on.
