Manchester United Football Club feel like a team who are improving under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Sure, there is still much work ahead for the Baby Faced Assasin, though our start to 2020 has been massively encouraging.
Bruno Fernandes’ addition has offered a lift to everyone involved with the club, though he’s yet to play alongside Paul Pogba. It’s a pairing that definitely excites on paper, though with the Frenchman’s injury, we’re yet to see it.
COVID-19 has given us the opportunity to see that partnership in action. Although Luke Shaw has been given a glimpse of what they’re like when they play together. Even the English left-back can’t wait to see how they’ll link up, admitting it’ll be ‘fascinating’ to watch ‘probably two of the best’ midfielders in the Premier League in the same team…
‘He (Fernandes) was paired with Paul in a small training group last week, which people saw on the videos, and we saw flashes of what they were capable of.” Shaw is quoted as saying by The Metro.
‘The coaches have switched it up so it’s not just them on the same team and it’s quite nice to see them battling against each other – they’ve already had some great games against each other – but, personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing them line up together.
‘They’re probably two of the best midfielders in the [Premier League] right now, I’d say, so it’s going to be fascinating to see them play together.’
Football is about the here and now. Yes, Pogba may well end up leaving this summer, though the Frenchman still has a part to play in helping the Red Devils get into the top-four and progress in the cup competitions.
When the elite players link up, it often doesn’t take them long to form a bond. Sure, it may take a couple of games, but I’d feel confident that Pogba & Fernandes will immediately be amongst the best combinations in the Premier League.
Who knows, if Fernandes continues his excellent form and the happiness around Old Trafford keeps flowing. Maybe, just maybe, United can convince Pogba to stay and sign a new long-term contract…
