But the Manchester United star may have to force his way out of Old Trafford to make it happen as his club insist he is going nowhere.
As Starsport first revealed, Zinedine Zidane has been pushing to sign the 2018 World Cup winner for weeks – and Real will now do everything they can to get him.
Eriksen, who went public with his desire to leave Spurs last week, was considered a cheaper and more available option by the Madrid top brass.
But Zidane has blocked the move, insisting he ONLY wants fellow Frenchman Pogba to beef up the Real midfield.
But it also means United have their work cut out trying to keep hold of Pogba, who Real Madrid are convinced is unhappy in Manchester and wants out.
“Real Madrid have abandoned their bid for Christian Eriksen – and want Man Utd’s Paul Pogba instead”
Zidane sees Pogba as the last piece of the puzzle in Madrid – but the clubs are miles apart on his valuation with the Spanish giants insisting £133.5m is too much.
Real need to sell fringe players Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Dani Ceballos to raise funds for Pogba after splashing the cash already this summer.
Eden Hazard is set to be unveiled at the Bernabeu tomorrow when he completes a blockbuster transfer from Chelsea which could be worth £150m.
But Real have also spent almost £100m bringing in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic and Porto defender Eder Militao and are close to a £44m deal for Lyon defender Ferland Mendy.
They are willing to offer Pogba, 26, a six-year contract but his wages of around £300,000-a-week could also be a problem.
Zidane has always admired Pogba and sees him as the dynamic, driving force he needs to play a more up-tempo game next season.
Pogba already speaks Spanish and Real believe he would jump at the chance to play under one of his idols in Madrid.
He still has two years left on his contract and United insist he is going nowhere, but Real are confident the player will push for the move.
