Manchester United Football Club, for all their faults, have been rather excellent at choosing their goalkeepers.
David de Gea is widely regarded as the best in the business, while Sergio Romero is easily the number one back-up. Then, in the form of Dean Henderson, United have a world-class talent waiting in the wings.
The question amongst the lips of United supporters is whether the Old Trafford club could move on from De Gea. Well, that could be about to become a realistic possibility…
In an exclusive from The Sun, De Gea is once again being targeted by Real Madrid. Apparently, the European giant’s are plotting a ‘fresh bid’ to sign the United superstar this summer.
Despite a couple of key errors, including one against Everton this weekend, the Reds would ‘demand £70m’ for the man who signed a new, big-money contract in September.
Real are understandably one of the few clubs who can afford to take on his wages and pay such a transfer fee, while their interest in the past has been well-documented.
De Gea has been an unbelievable servant for United. However, the timing could well be right to move away from the Spaniard. If the offer matches the Red Devils’ valuation, it’d make sense to move on, promote Henderson and re-invest that money back into the playing squad.
Yes, it’s a big decision, but look at Henderson’s form. It feels like the right one however tough it may be. One thing is for sure, I definitely don’t envy Solskjaer’s position…
