Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was the name many Manchester United supporters uttered in the summer of 2018 with many stating that United needed a player like him in their squad. However, it never happened and the player remained at Lazio.
Once again though, the Serbian midfielder has been linked to the Old Trafford club, this time because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Paul Pogba, who has been linked with Real Madrid. Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, which is carried by The Sun in England suggest that United have made ‘small enquiries’ for the 24-year-old.
Last summer, Milinkovic-Savic was a name you could see during every refresh on social media. Every United supporter was talking about him and many wanted him at the club. Last season, he scored 12 goals in Serie A for Lazio, this season he has so far scored only four times.
I am sure that the 24-year-old has not lost his talent but it does seem that either he or his team have regressed in the past year. I have not heard his name mentioned by a United supporter since last summer and have also never seen his name in the news, until today. Perhaps it is a slow news day!
Is the interest in the player solid? I am not so sure. The Sun normally publish anything that they see as an attention grabber. That is normally anything involving Manchester United and a football player. I believe that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is still a good player, but for £86 million, he would have to be doing much better than he currently is.
