'Should not be anywhere near a starting lineup' Man United fans slate 27yo for display vs Arsenal

Well, it’s certainly fair to say 2020 could have started better for Manchester United. The Red Devils deserved to lose to Arsenal on New Years Day, in fact, it could have been more than 2-0.

The tone of the game was set from the off. Arsenal were hungrier, wanted the ball and worked harder for one another. United looked lethargic, slow and clueless.

Nobody typified the performance more than Jesse Lingard. The attacking midfielder came into the side fresh off rest on Boxing Day, and well, it’s fair to say the Englishman looked like he’d overindulged at Christmas…

His usually excellent run-making wasn’t there while he was often outworked by his opposite number. His passing was sloppy, he also looked scared to take a chance and try and make things happen. Honestly, right now it’s just sad watching him play.

Lingard is no longer a young man. This should be his prime years and right now we’re seeing anything but. To end 2019 without a Premier League goal or assist to his name is just shocking and he’s definitely started 2020 in a similar vein.

Anyway, at full time, United fans took to Twitter in their droves to slate the 27-year-old and rightly so. He (along with many others) actually made Arsenal look like a semi-competent football team…
