Perhaps the mess at Manchester United is even bigger than we all realised. While reading an excellent piece from the BBC about Jose Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford, there was a snippet about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his plans going forward.
Apparently, the Baby Faced Assassin and his coaching staff are expecting to oversee big changes at Old Trafford this summer. To add to that, the futures of five regular first-teamers are uncertain. Those named by the BBC are Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez.
When you factor in both Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia have already left, there could be major squad overhaul undertaken this summer.
The majority would probably prefer both Pogba and De Gea to stick around. They’re definitely our two best players on paper and when on song, we have a pair of world-beaters who you can build a team around.
Martial and Lukaku are in strange situations. Both remain under contract, both have been hit and miss. The former is still a top talent while the latter knows where the back of the net is. Personally I wouldn’t be too bothered if either stayed or left…
As for Sanchez, well his time at Old Trafford has just been a disaster. The club need to get his huge wages off the books whatever the cost, although that’s going to be easier said than done.
If all these guys leave, which is probably unlikely, Solskjaer will need a monumental summer in terms of spending. The Glazers would certainly have to dig deep into their pockets if that’s the case and the unthinkable happens…
