Well, it’s fair to say derby day didn’t exactly go as planned for Manchester United this time around. That 2-1 victory at the Emptihad certainly feels a long time ago now, huh?
Perhaps one of the reasons why our defence was an absolute shambles was due to the fact that Harry Maguire was missing. Slabhead was physically playing through the pain barrier in the FA Cup game against Wolves at the weekend and in the end, the game at Old Trafford came just too soon for the centre-half.
Anyway, just before kick-off, Solskjaer explained the Maguire absence vs City and although it hurts, it definitely didn’t make sense to risk him during this one…
“So there is no point trying to make things worse. He was trying to the end, but he wasn’t ready, no.”
United have some huge league games coming up and they have to take priority. Sure, hindsight is a wonderful thing and when the alternative is Phil Jones, perhaps that should make you think a little deeper.
Either way, what’s done is done. United now have to regroup, refocus and reorganise for a key fixture against Norwich City this weekend. This is a match we simply have to win or those questions about Solskjaer’s long-term future will no doubt be raised again.
Hopefully, Maguire is fit and raring to go as judging by last night’s defensive shambles we’re definitely going to need him.
