Back in January, Manchester United missed out on signing Erling Braut Haaland, with the young Norwegian hitting the ground running in Germany.
Credit where it’s due, the Red Devils didn’t panic and eventually settled on a loan bid for Odion Ighalo. The Nigerian has been superb since making the move to Manchester ad his love for the badge on his chest definitely shows.
However, the question marks in regards to whether he’s the long-term answer remain. According to the Evening Standard, United are looking to extend Ighalo’s loan deal while weighing up a potential permanent move for £15million.
With a loan deal that expires at the end of May, Ighalo has effectively played his last game for United unless they can get an extension to that short-term contract.
However, Solskjaer’s plans haven’t changed as he intends to make a summer signing in the key forward position when the window opens. Right now, the Evening Standard state he’s weighing up his options.
Haaland is still of interest to United per the report, while Moussa Dembele, Timo Werner and Raul Jimenez are all ‘admired’ by the Baby Faced Assassin.
Ighalo represents a cut-price option, giving United more time to find a permanent solution to a hole they need to fill.
There is a problem with that, though, the Chinese Super League is so close to kicking off their season and Shanghai Shenhua will be wanting Ighalo to be a part of that. Heck, he looked brilliant for United during those couple of months so why wouldn’t they want him back?
Right now, this situation is finely balanced. I just hope that Ighalo hasn’t played his last United game as us fans didn’t really get the opportunity to give him a proper farewell…
