Manchester United have been on a two-week hiatus due to the international break, with the Red Devils gearing up for a huge game against Chelsea on Monday Night Football.
The Red Devils could really set the cat amongst the pigeons with a positive result in this one, throwing themselves in the mix for a place in the Champions League next season.
Ahead of the game, the Baby Faced Assassin met the media to discuss all things United vs Chelsea, with the all-important team news being the main topic of discussion.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offered several injury updates, though unfortunately, it’s bad news as he confirmed several players won’t be ready to take on Frank Lampard’s side in a few days time.
They’ll be no returns for Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe or Timothy Fosu-Mensah, with the latter suffering a training setback. The Dutchman should be back in training before the month’s end, though.
“I don’t think we’ll get anyone back for the Chelsea game,” Solskjaer said, per ManUtd.com. “Because Scotty, Axel, Tim, they didn’t join too much so they’re not ready to play that game. And Paul is not ready, of course.
“How do we go about playing without Marcus, Paul, Scott? You deal with it.
“We’ve got players who are going to get a chance. They’ve now had a rest, a great rest.”
Dealing with injuries is part and parcel of football, though granted, United have definitely had their fair share this season. Paul Pogba is another long-term casualty while who knows when we’re going to get Marcus Rashford back…
This is a bitter blow, but United have been playing without these guys for the last few weeks, months in some cases. The good news is that they’re on their way back. Sure, it would have been nice to have them readily available for this one, but it’s a situation Solskjaer and that squad will have been prepared for.
I’m still backing United to upset the applecart and get a positive result in this huge game on Monday night.
