Manchester United’s pre-season tour has gone rather well so far. Credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for that, as the high-pressing system he has implemented is working a treat.
Next up is a tough game against Tottenham Hotspur. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will provide the toughest test to date, giving the Baby Faced Assassin a real marker as to how far his team have progressed.
Ahead of the game, Solskjaer met the media to discuss all things United. Amongst the topic of discussion was team news in regards to who’ll be fit and who’ll miss the game.
Our Norweigan leader provided mixed injury news before the clash vs Spurs, with Victor Lindelof set to be fit, although Romelu Lukaku will be missing again…
“Lindelof is fine but Lukaku won’t be fit, no,” Ole told reporters including ManUtd.com.
“He [Lukaku] has been working with the physios the last few days. I don’t think he’ll make this one either.”
It’s vital that Lindelof continues to perform well. He’s our best centre-back at this moment and it does seem as though the Ice Man is growing into his role at the heart of that defence.
As for Lukaku, well it’s anyone’s guess as to what’s happening with the striker. His future is still up in the air amid links to Inter Milan. Perhaps his head isn’t right at the moment or maybe he’s genuinely injured (though I do have my doubts).
For what it’s worth I feel as if Lukaku will stay at United but the problem then is the fact that he’s not had any sort of pre-season under his belt and he’ll be way behind his teammates in terms of fitness and learning the new system.
That only means more minutes will be given to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the early-goings, creating an even bigger problem for Lukaku from a personal point of view.
