Talented Man United loanee earns first senior England call-up after impressive displays

For all their faults, Manchester United have been flawless when it comes to discovering, signing and developing goalkeepers. David de Gea is up there amongst the best in the world, while Sergio Romero is a top drawer backup.

Then you have Dean Henderson, who is spending his second season on loan with Sheffield United – where he’s making a real name for himself.

This evening, according to the BBC, we’ve learned that the talented Red Devils loanee has earned his first senior England call-up after some impressive displays for The Blades.

He does owe former Red Tom Heaton for his place in the side, though, with the Aston Villa man being forced to withdraw due to injury.

I’m just absolutely delighted for the young man. I’d imagine that pulling on the jersey of your country is up there amongst the best feelings within the sport – and to get the call-up so early on his career must be a huge mental boost for Henderson.

Year-on-year, the now 22-year-old has only improved as a goalkeeper, and he’s being exposed to Premier League football which can only help.

The one question I do have is what happens to him now that De Gea’s long-term future at United is now secure? Hopefully, Henderson keeps working hard ad who knows, he could displace the superstar Spaniard from the team in the not too distant future…
