Man Utd’s £40m plan

Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward is drawing up a plan in case David de Gea quits the club this summer.

De Gea is about to enter the final year of his contract and talks over an extension are going nowhere.

The Spaniard is one of the club’s most valuable assets and they won’t want to lose him for nothing.

The Sun report United boss Woodward is drafting up a contingency plan which include Ajax’s Andre Onana and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

Onana would the cheaper option at around £40m with Oblak coming in at more than the world-record £71m Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga last year.

It’s claimed United would rather lose De Gea for free next summer rather than flog him now.

Coutinho to Chelsea?

Chelsea have decided against signing Philippe Coutinho after initial discussions with Barcelona, it has been claimed.

Chelsea were looking at the Brazil international as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard who has joined Real Madrid for an initial £89million.

But any move for Coutinho would mean the Blues’ transfer ban would have to be frozen or lifted.

FIFA have stopped Chelsea from signing players in the next two windows for breaking rules when it comes to signing young players.

The Sun claim the Blues have given up on Coutinho though as they are resigned to the fact their transfer ban will not be resolved in time to complete a deal.
