A Tahith Chong loan move to Werder Bremen was organised to give the Dutchman regular minutes. If this pre-season stunner was anything to go by, he’s in for a great campaign.
Start as you mean to go on, hey? Tahith Chong looked super-lively during a substitute appearance for Manchester United in the Europa League against LASK last month. However, he was always going to find regular playing time at Old Trafford hard to come by.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Chong decided that a loan move would be best for his development. A season in the Bundesliga, playing week-in-week-out, will do him the world of good; both mentally and physically.
Well, the fluffy-haired Dutchman hit the ground running, with the United loanee scoring an incredible solo goal on his first outing in a pre-season friendly.
Cheers to the official English Werder Bremen Twitter account for the quality video of the goal:
Power, pace, precision. This is the talent we all know that Chong possesses. The problem is, he hasn’t been able to show that in Manchester.
The ability is there for all to see, it’s just that with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and others ahead of him in the pecking order right now, he’s a bench player at best.
Chong should be looking at Dean Henderson as the perfect inspiration. The shot-stopper is now battling it out with David de Gea for the number one spot, while taking home a super-nice weekly-wage following signing a new contract.
The proof is in the pudding. If Chong plays well this term, I don’t doubt he’ll get his chances at United in 2021/22. This is the perfect start for him, though he has to continue and really push on from here.
Good luck, Chongy!
