Manchester United Football Club lost Romelu Lukaku over the summer, with a combination of Mason Greenwood and more recently, Odion Ighalo stepping up to replace the Belgian.
I’ll be honest, at the time, I felt somewhat betrayed by Lukaku. After officially asking to leave, the striker would then be hit by this mysterious injury and he’d go AWOL from the Red Devils’ pre-season tour.
From that point forward, I got my back up. After all, United had given him a platform during his two-year stay in Manchester, backed him all the way, and he’d walk out at the first possible opportunity.
Now, though, my mind has definitely changed. Lukaku, while FaceTiming with Arsenal legend Ian Wright, spoke highly of the Reds, namely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The videos are doing the rounds all over social media, but seeing Inter’s £74m man brilliantly open up on leaving United, while sharing his utmost respect for Solskjaer, has made me think that actually, he’s a pretty straightforward guy.
You have to love his honesty. He admits that United wanted to keep him, but Lukaku’s mind was already made up, that’s fair enough. The Belgian definitely comes across pretty well and no doubt I’m not the only fan who’ll start to feel differently about the forward.
If he wasn’t happy here in England then fair enough. Maybe he does have regrets about the way it all ended, but he was chasing a dream and I guess we can all relate to that.
It is nice to see that he’s glad United are now trending upwards once again and hopefully, this will end all the bad blood between Reds fans and Lukaku. He’s definitely changed my opinion, that’s for sure…
