Manchester United Football Club have been enjoying an up-turn in form of late – that was until the coronavirus halted play…
In the meantime, Red Devils attention has undoubtedly turned to the transfer window. United still need further signings in order to make this team a competitor on all fronts. Credit where it’s due, though, however this season ends, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has definitely earned himself another term.
One name who was linked with a potential United move today was Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. We covered that story from The Sun here. Apparently, Arsenal could be ‘resigned’ to losing their star striker, with the Reds interested.
Now, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has given his take. He reckons the 30-year-old is exactly ‘what Manchester United are missing’ while signing the man from Gabon would make the Reds a ‘major force’.
“Aubameyang is what Manchester United are missing. He is a goal scorer and goal scorers are priceless.” Merson told Sky Sports.
“…If they were to sign Aubameyang and they also got someone like a Jack Grealish, are they big players? They would be a major force, in my opinion.”
We’re talking about a prolific, experienced goal-scorer. Aubameyang has consistently scored goals in an average Arsenal team. He deserves credit for that.
If he’s available, it’s an avenue United, at the very least, have to explore. After all, signing a player while weakening a rival worked brilliantly when we signed Robin van Persie from The Emirates outfit.
Aubameyang would be an experienced player that the younger lads could look up to and learn from. He’d be hungry to succeed and with a winding down deal, I’d doubt he’d be all that expensive. Fighting off other interested parties may be a problem, mind…
