Manchester United want to sign the Leicester centre-back, but have baulked at their huge asking price for the England international.
Maguire is liked by Solskjaer, but the Foxes are adamant he won’t leave for less than the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago.
Manchester City are also keen on the defender, and he’s told Leicester he’s up for a move to either club – although he’s promised not to kick up a fuss if the move doesn’t go through.
If Maguire ends up at Old Trafford, Solskjaer will be left with seven centre-backs on the books.
And The Times report he’s keen to sell at least one of them should he land his top defensive target.
Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe are his current options at the back.
Rojo or Bailly appear most likely to depart, while Tuanzebe could yet return on loan to Aston Villa after impressing in their promotion from the Championship last term.
Solskjaer is yet to decide what to do with the 21-year-old, who has impressed him on the pre-season tour of Australia.
