Although the first half wasn’t exactly what Manchester United would have liked, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side kicked it up a notch in the second 45 and ensured they’d top their Europa League group.
For what it’s worth, I think the 4-0 scoreline flattered United, though us fans certainly slept like a baby after how things panned out.
It was certainly a special night for one player, in particular. Mason Greenwood scored two sublime goals to guarantee the three points for United – taking his tally for the season to six, which is joint-second most in the squad only behind Marcus Rashford.
When you factor in how little game-time Greenwood has actually had, you have to be impressed. The youngster reminds me so much of Robin van Persie it’s scary and the best thing about it is he’ll only continue to grow and improve over the next few years.
He’s got two great feet, he’s a lethal finisher, has an excellent footballing brain and always chooses the right option. Greenwood plays with a maturity beyond his years and that has to be praised.
As you’d imagine, United fans took to Twitter to laud the 18-year-old with praise for his stunning display vs AZ Alkmaar; and we’d all like to think this is one of many similar displays that we’ll see over the next decade or so.
