Well, Manchester United got it done in the end, despite a poor Aaron Wan-Bissaka defensive display vs Brighton. It goes without saying, the fans were less than impressed…

So today’s Twitter talk is focused around The Spider. A player who could well have been Manchester United’s best last season.

Defensively, he was stunning in 2019/20, with that performance against Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling the standout.

Today, things were different. I will point out it was Wan-Bissaka’s first league start of the season after returning to pre-season training late. Perhaps he’s still a little rusty?

Positionally, Wan-Bissaka struggled. In the second-half, he was tucking in way too deep, giving Solly March the freedom of that flank to pretty much do whatever he wanted. Time-and-time again Wan-Bissaka was given the warning signs but still, he’d leave far too much space. Perhaps he was just tired?

Anyway, here at Old Trafford Faithful, we give praise and criticism in equal measure. For all his brilliance last term, today was a complete contrast.

I wasn’t the only fan not best-pleased with Wan-Bissaka, with several taking to Twitter to share how unimpressed they were with the United star…

Check out the fan reaction here:

It is worth noting that this is just one game. It feels like the exception rather than the rule and I’m fully expecting a bounce-back from Wan-Bissaka next time out.

You cannot help but feel disappointed, though. He’s just so much better than what he showed today. The only excuse I can make is that perhaps he’s worried about Victor Lindelof’s defending, hence why he’s tucking in and trying to overcompensate.

What I will say is it should be solely about doing your own job first. There’s no room for hero-ball in football at the highest level. It truly is a team game and that will never change.

Hopefully, Wan-Bissaka will play far better next time out…
