Manchester United would have been hoping that the international break could have been a time to get players back from injury. Unfortunately, that seemingly isn’t the case…
Speaking at his usual pre-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given a concerning injury update to the official club website.
While sweating on the fitness of five players, Solskjaer ‘elaborated’ that Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial look certain to be out of the game, while Luke Shaw is still battling a hamstring problem.
Both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jesse Lingard are battling to be ready, most likely for a place on the bench, while Eric Bailly remains a long-term absentee.
Losing Pogba is the biggest concern. This is a midfield that has lacked any sort of consistency even with our most creative player. Without him, I dread to think how poor we’ll be.
With Martial also out, the pressure is firmly on Marcus Rashford’s shoulders. We’ll seriously need him to produce something special and that’s not going to be easy against a stern Leicester City side who are more than capable of turning anyone over on their day.
If Wan-Bissaka can’t make it, I’d hope Diogo Dalot can. If not, who knows who’ll be fit and available to play at right-back for this one…
This is the risk you run when you completely thin the squad out. It’s going to be a big ask to get all three points this weekend. Here’s to hoping Ole pulls something out of the bag.
