Manchester is indeed Red, for the third time this season no-less. Credit to Machester United. To a man, they went toe-to-toe with probably the best team in the country and came out on top.
The 2-0 result was nothing less than those players deserved, none more so than Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who single-handedly shut down Raheem Sterling once again.
The Spider, true to his nickname, won tackles galore, made key blocks and interceptions. Simply put, he didn’t give Sterling a sniff of an opportunity throughout the 90-minutes, which isn’t an easy thing to do.
Earlier today, we posted the best fan reaction to that performance. However, the single-best response came from his teammate Harry Maguire, who posted a simple yet effective Tweet in regards to Wan-Bissaka’s absolute masterclass:
You look at this defence, who are on a great run (the second-best defensive team in Europe this season behind PSG), and you can only be left impressed.
As the season has gone on, they’ve gelled, led by Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. Sprinkle in the odd bit of Luke Shaw, add some Victor Lindelof calmness and factor in Eric Bailly and Brandon Williams, this back line is going places.
It’s having both an on and off-field relationship and these guys genuinely seem to not only enjoy playing with each other, but they also like each other’s company.
Well played, Hazza!
