With just one year left on his current Manchester United deal, David de Gea’s Red Devils future is far from certain.
The superstar Spaniard, now 28, has been locked in contract talks with the 20-time Premier League champions for what feels like an absolute age.
Well, according to an exclusive from ESPN, United are ready to make their next move. According to the report, the Old Trafford club are ready to make an ‘improved offer’ to De Gea, in a bid to keep him in Manchester beyond June 2020.
De Gea is being targeted by Paris Saint-Germain and recently rejected a £350k-a-week contract offer from United, with the Manchester club deeming their #1 not for sale at any price.
The Spanaird currently earns £240,000-a-week which is close to half of what Alexis Sanchez brings home, so you can certainly understand his frustration.
In my opinion, United just need to get this done and pay the man whatever he wants. If there’s one player in that dressing room who can command astronomical wages, it’s De Gea as he has been sensational for about a half-decade.
Sure, he ended the 2018/19 campaign poorly but when you look at the defence he’s playing behind, while considering his long-term future, the struggles were understandable. Tie him down to a new contract and clear the doubt in his mind, then sit back and watch him return to his brilliant best…
