That is the view of former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister, who believes all ex-United players want City to win the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool are looking to win their first league title for 29 years but sit one point behind City, who are hoping to retain their title.
With the games running out until the end of the season, the title race is sure to go down to the wire.
And Pallister says that he would much prefer it if Manchester City won the league this term.
“We took so much stick off Liverpool in the years leading up to ’93 before we won that first title after 26 years,” Pallister told Premier League Productions.
“That rivalry, it’s always going to beat the Man City derby.
“The Liverpool thing, the two most successful teams in the country, the proximity of the two clubs to each other, the feeling in those games when you play them.
“I think it’s always going to be Man City for ex-United players.”
Pallister’s comments come after:
“That rivalry, it’s always going to beat the Man City derby”
Pallister though says he has been impressed with Liverpool for keeping up with Pep Guardiola’s side throughout the campaign.
City won the title last season with a record 100 point haul and look like coming close to that number again this season.
And this is why Pallister thinks City will have too much for Liverpool and will ultimately win the title.
“I think they’ve got the experience of doing it,” he continued.
“I think they’ve got a better squad, I think they’ve got better depth in their squad than Liverpool maybe have.
“Liverpool were good last year, I think they’ve taken it up a notch again this year.
“And to be competitive with a team like Manchester City, you’ve got to pay testament to that for Liverpool.
“But I just think the quality and the size of the squad at Manchester City is going to tell in the end.”
