Manchester United have seriously struggled across all competitions in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has several problems to fix – amongst those is finding a striker who can guarantee 20+ goals a season. Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial could be that man, but they’re still young and learning.
Oh what Solskjaer would give to have a player like a prime Robin van Persie leading the line. The Dutchman is by far and away United’s best signing since the 2010 term, and he’s still banging in the goals now at the ripe old age of 36…
Last night, Van Persie scored a trademark goal at Vincent Kompany’s testimonial, and what a cool finish it was past a hapless Joe Hart.
He’s just pure class, isn’t he? One of my United regrets is that he didn’t join this club sooner or stay at Old Trafford longer. He always knew where the back of the net is and he played his best matches in the big situations.
I’ll never forget that 2012/13 season. Van Persie was a man on a Premier League mission, and to deliver title #20 in the way that he did was one of those footballing memories that’ll always be in the forefront of my mind.
